How do I remove the background from a photo for free?

Open this page, press Upload a photo and pick your picture. In a few seconds the background is gone. Choose see-through, white or a colour, then press Download. You do not need an account.

Is this background remover really free?

Yes. You can remove the background from 5 photos every day for free, with no sign up and no card. If you need more, make a free Shotova account: your account gets 5 free photos a day, and after that each photo is 1 credit. The free plan gives you 10 credits a month.

Do I need to sign up?

No. Your first 5 photos each day need no account, no email and no card.

Does it add a watermark?

No. There is no watermark on any photo, free or not.

What size is the photo I download?

The same size as the photo you uploaded. Very large photos are made smaller first, to 2048 pixels on the longest side. That keeps it fast, and it is the size Shopify recommends for product photos and big enough for Amazon zoom.

Can I make the background white for Amazon?

Yes. After the background is removed, pick the white circle and download as JPG. You get your product on a plain white background, the way Amazon, eBay and Etsy ask for the main photo.

Can I get a transparent PNG?

Yes. Leave the background on the checked pattern, which means see-through, and download as PNG.

Do you keep my photos?

No. Your photo goes to our tool, the result comes straight back to you, and neither is saved. To count your 5 free photos we keep only a scrambled code, never the photo.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works in the web browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. There is nothing to install.

Which photos work best?

Photos where the product is sharp and easy to tell apart from what is behind it. It handles bottles, clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery and people with loose hair. Clear glass and very thin parts can keep a faint edge, so zoom in to check.

remove.bg is closing. What can I use instead?

remove.bg has said its own website closes on December 1, 2026, and background removal moves into Canva. You can use this free background remover instead: no account, no watermark, and 5 free photos a day.

Can I use the photos to sell my products?

Yes. The photo is yours, and so is the result. Use it in your shop, ads, social posts or print.
